Models & Capabilities

AI can draft an emergency alert. It cannot check itself.

Grist reports on AI drafts of emergency warnings. One weather graphic had the wrong location. A revised alert left blanks. Clearer words do not settle the facts or decide who may send a warning. The report does not show that the school districts it names sent live alerts without human approval.

What the source reports

Jake Bittle reports for Grist on AI tools that draft emergency warnings. WIRED also carried the story. The digest cites a weather graphic with the wrong location. Another draft alert had blank fields. A message can read well while the location or action is still wrong. Bittle also reports on who gets to send the final warning. The examples and expert views do not tell us how often errors occur. Nor do they show that the school districts named in the story sent live AI alerts on their own. A draft still needs an official source and a human with send authority.
