Four checks before an AI tool acts
NIST’s voluntary playbook gives teams a way to work through AI risks. Name who owns a task, who may be affected, what evidence to check, and what to do if a check fails. Following that exercise is not NIST certification.
What the source reports
The National Institute of Standards and Technology offers a voluntary playbook for handling AI risks. It organizes the work around four actions: govern, map, measure, and manage. In plain terms, name an owner, map who may be affected, choose evidence to check, and plan a response if the check fails. A low-risk draft offers a place to practice before an AI tool gets permission to act outside it. The playbook is guidance, not a certificate that a system is safe. A team still has to test its own pause and recovery steps. The source digest does not report a school trial or show that following the playbook improved results for students.
