Schools cannot leave AI privacy for later
The paper says privacy can get pushed aside as school AI tools are built. In its review of 48 platform policies, 33% lacked clear AI disclosure despite visible AI features. That is a warning to ask hard questions before buying. The policy review does not prove what each vendor does in practice.
What the source reports
Nair and Greenstadt spoke with 12 people who work in school tech. They also read 48 privacy policies for school tech platforms. The paper says teams often put off privacy work as they build products. In the policy review, 33% of platforms had AI features but no clear notice about AI. It also found that 73% used broad words about who takes charge or what happens after a data breach. The interviews describe how privacy work can be delayed. The policy review shows what the documents say. Neither method checks how each vendor handles student data. The digest names data access, storage, training, deletion, and breach notice as contract questions. It does not claim these platforms had a proven data breach.
