A human plan changed the range of AI-written stories

A study put people at different points in a chain that planned, wrote, reviewed, and revised stories. One human planning step gave the stories more range without lowering the creativity score seen in the all-AI chain. The finding is about these tasks and ratings. It does not show that every project needs the same handoff.

What the source reports

Li and colleagues describe a writing experiment in a preprint abstract. The study involved 333 people and 427 stories. In each chain, a person or AI could plan, write, review, or revise. Chains handled only by AI got higher creativity ratings but produced less varied stories than chains handled only by people. When one person planned and AI handled the other steps, story variety rose while the all-AI creativity result and reported enjoyment remained. This points to the place where a person directs a draft, not just how many words they write. The evidence comes from the abstract and the story tasks tested. It cannot settle what works for every genre or publishing job.
