AI search can help you start. It cannot check the source for you.
An AI summary can be a useful map, but a map is not the place itself. WIRED's reported guide says to go back to the original page for exact words, new developments, and serious claims. Its examples do not measure how often a given AI search tool gets things wrong.
What the source reports
David Nield's WIRED guide weighs when AI search helps and when a reader should inspect a source directly. It presents broad topic searches as one useful starting point. Exact quotations, breaking updates, and high-stakes facts call for a closer check on the original page. The guide draws on examples and cited research. It does not report a district trial or a single accuracy rate for all AI search tools. For a standards or policy claim, the controlling primary text still matters. The decision is about which source can support the claim, not whether an AI answer sounds confident.
