WIRED reports one ad firm using chatbot conversations to choose ads

An ad selected by the company in WIRED’s report can draw on the chat up to the moment the ad is requested, WIRED reports. That makes the conversation itself part of ad selection. The reported click rates and privacy claims come from the company, not an outside test. Its partner apps do not yet have AI shopping assistants that act on their own.

What the source reports

Paresh Dave reports for WIRED on ads placed inside chatbots. An ad intermediary can use the conversation up to an ad request to choose what to show. That is different from an ad chosen without the chat. The company gives figures for how often people click and says it removes identifying details. Those are company accounts. The report does not independently test whether the ads help people or whether the privacy method protects them. It also does not describe a current shopping system that acts on its own across the company’s partner apps. The immediate issue is what information from a chat can shape an ad, not proof that an AI shopping assistant has already taken over the purchase.
