Candidates pay $30-50/month to Jobscan-style optimizers; a data scientist's résumé was dinged for two pages, for using a middle initial on one document and not another, and gained points for changing "percent" to "%". Employers receive hundreds of near-identical AI-polished applications and feed them into AI ranking systems to differentiate. Greenhouse CEO Daniel Chait: "each side has a problem. They're using AI to solve their own problem, but in ways that make the problem worse... The more it's happening, the worse it gets." Doist ran the validity check: replaying filled roles through the AI shortlister, the person they actually hired - working out great six months in - was not on the shortlist (in two of two instances tested). The human/AI screening divide tracks company philosophy, not size.
