AI pitches news stories. Editors are not buying it yet.

AI tools are pitching stories to news editors. WIRED spoke with editors who get these pitches often, but none it interviewed had taken one. One maker paused a reporting tool after it wrote to public officials. Claims that these tools have earned money come from the people behind them, not an outside audit.

What the source reports

Kate Knibbs reports for WIRED on AI tools that pitch news stories. Editors she interviewed said these pitches keep landing in their inboxes. They had not taken a pitch from such a tool. One maker paused a reporting tool after it contacted public officials, then added limits and a way for the tool to track what it was doing. The interviews show a real change in editors’ inboxes, not a count of the whole news market. Claims that these tools got paid work come from their makers. That is not the same as proof from the editors.
